Angels' Share is a distilling term. When spirit ages in an oak barrel, a small amount evaporates through the wood every year, and distillers have always called that lost portion the angels' share. Kilian named a fragrance after it and built the thing on cognac and oak, because that is what the phrase actually describes.

Lattafa has now interpreted that fragrance twice. Everyone knows the first attempt. Almost nobody has noticed the second.

The two routes to the same place

Khamrah arrived in 2022 and became the most talked-about affordable fragrance in the world. Fire On Ice arrived in 2025, in a 110ml bottle, and slipped out with a fraction of the attention.

Put their note lists side by side and something obvious jumps out.

Khamrah Fire On Ice
Top Cinnamon, nutmeg, bergamot Black raspberry, cinnamon, cognac accord
Heart Dates, praline, tuberose, mahonial Frozen rose petals, caramel, moss
Base Vanilla, tonka, amberwood, myrrh, benzoin, akigalawood Oakwood, myrrh, cedarwood, ambroxan

Khamrah has no cognac in it. It has no oak in it either. It reaches the warm boozy impression through dates, praline, tonka and vanilla, which is a sweetness route rather than a spirit route. It gets there, and it gets there well enough that the comparison has been made ten thousand times online, but it is an impression of the thing rather than the thing itself.

Fire On Ice has the cognac accord in the opening and oakwood in the base. The spirit and the barrel. The two materials the phrase "angels' share" is literally about.

That is the finding, and once you see it you cannot unsee it. The famous one is the loose interpretation. The quiet one is the faithful one.

Khamrah

Khamrah Perfume 100ml EDP Lattafa

Cinnamon and nutmeg over bergamot to start, bright and spiced. Twenty minutes in it thickens into something close to edible: sticky dates, nutty praline, a thread of tuberose stopping it short of pure sugar. The base is dense vanilla with myrrh and benzoin giving it resin and weight.

Most people call it spiced apple pie. Date pastry is closer. Either way it is warm the whole way through, with no cold note anywhere in the composition to push against the sweetness.

It runs ten to fourteen hours on skin and stays on a coat until you wash it. Projection fills a room for the first few hours, which is a feature in December and a liability in a meeting.

Its honest limitation is the sweetness. In a warm room it can tip from cosy to cloying, and that is the single most common reason people who try it end up not keeping it.

Fire On Ice

Fire On Ice Perfume 110ml EDP Lattafa

Black raspberry soaked in a cognac accord, with cinnamon crackling over the top. Boozy and dark from the first spray in a way Khamrah never quite is, because Khamrah is working with dates where this is working with liquor.

Then the cold arrives, and this is the part that makes the fragrance interesting rather than merely competent. Frozen rose petals and moss cut across the warmth with something dewy and green. Caramel keeps a gourmand thread running underneath. The composition is deliberately pulling in two directions at once, which is exactly what the name promises and more thought than this end of the market usually gets.

It lands on oakwood, cedarwood, myrrh and ambroxan. Drier than Khamrah, woodier, and more polished at the finish.

Eight to ten hours on skin, bold projection for the first three. The bottle is 110ml, ten more than the standard Lattafa flacon.

What they actually share

Less than you would assume for two fragrances chasing the same reference. Cinnamon in the opening. Myrrh in the base. That is the whole overlap.

Everything else diverges. Khamrah is dates and praline and vanilla, built to be comforting. Fire On Ice is cognac and raspberry and oak, built to be dramatic. Worn blind, most people would not place them in the same family, let alone identify them as two attempts at the same idea.

Which is the argument for owning both, if the warm boozy genre is one you live in. They are not alternatives to each other in the way that, say, Khamrah and Khamrah Qahwa are.

Which one to buy

You have never owned either and want the safe one. Khamrah. It is the reference point, it gets compliments, and if you dislike it you will have learned something useful about your taste in twenty minutes.

You want the one closest to Kilian's. Fire On Ice, for the cognac and the oak. It is not identical, nothing at this price is, but it is chasing the same materials rather than approximating the mood.

You tried Khamrah and found it too sweet. Fire On Ice. The moss and the frozen floral heart do the job that coffee does in Qahwa, cutting the sugar without losing the warmth.

You want maximum longevity. Khamrah, clearly. Four extra hours and it haunts a coat for a week.

You are tired of smelling like everyone else. Fire On Ice. Khamrah's success is also its problem: in a British city in winter you will smell it on other people.

You want the most interesting composition. Fire On Ice, without much hesitation. The hot and cold structure is a real idea executed properly, where Khamrah is a very good execution of a familiar one.

An honest note on the word dupe

Lattafa has never officially called either of these a dupe of anything. The comparisons come from people putting them side by side, not from a manufacturer claim, and we would rather say that plainly than imply an endorsement that does not exist.

Kilian sits around two hundred and sixty to three hundred pounds for 50ml, so the gap is wide enough that nobody is confusing the two in a blind test. What you are buying at this end of the market is the shape of the idea, not a replica. Fire On Ice gets closer to the shape because it uses closer materials. That is a different claim from saying it smells the same, and we are not making the second one.

Our full Khamrah guide goes through the same question across all four Khamrahs if you want the wider picture.

Can you layer them?

Technically yes, because they share cinnamon and myrrh, which is more common ground than most pairs have. In practice it is a lot. Both are strong, both project hard in the first hours, and stacking cognac on dates produces something closer to a dessert trolley than either deserves.

If you want to try it, one spray of Fire On Ice underneath and one of Khamrah over the top, and stop there. The oakwood base does give the sweeter fragrance something dry to sit on.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fire On Ice better than Khamrah?

Neither is better outright. Fire On Ice is the more interesting composition and sits closer to Kilian Angels' Share because it uses an actual cognac accord and oakwood. Khamrah is sweeter, lasts longer and is far more widely loved. Choose on whether you want comfort or drama.

Do Khamrah and Fire On Ice smell the same?

No. They share only cinnamon in the opening and myrrh in the base. Khamrah is dates, praline and vanilla. Fire On Ice is cognac, black raspberry, frozen florals and oak. Worn blind most people would not place them in the same family.

Which is closer to Kilian Angels' Share?

Fire On Ice, on materials. Angels' Share is built on cognac and oak, and Fire On Ice contains both. Khamrah contains neither and reaches a similar warm boozy impression through dates, praline and tonka instead.

Which lasts longer, Khamrah or Fire On Ice?

Khamrah, at ten to fourteen hours on skin against eight to ten for Fire On Ice. Khamrah also clings to fabric for days. Fire On Ice projects boldly for the first three hours before easing into a warm woody aura.

Is Fire On Ice unisex?

Yes. The boozy fruit, cool rose and dry woods sit comfortably on any wearer. The same is true of Khamrah, though its sweetness reads slightly more feminine to some noses.

What size is Fire On Ice?

110ml, which is ten millilitres more than the standard Lattafa bottle and more than the 100ml Khamrah comes in.

Should I buy both?

If warm boozy fragrances are your category, there is a real case for it. They overlap on only two notes, so they are not substitutes for one another the way Khamrah and Khamrah Qahwa are. One is comfort, the other is drama.

Can you layer Khamrah and Fire On Ice?

You can, since they share cinnamon and myrrh, but keep it to one spray of each. Fire On Ice goes underneath so its oakwood base gives the sweeter Khamrah something dry to sit on. Two sprays of each is too much.

Where to go next

Both sit in our Khamrah collection and the wider Lattafa range. If the dry woody side of Fire On Ice is what appeals, our best woody Lattafa fragrances is the better starting point, and our ranking of the best Lattafa perfumes in the UK places both against everything else the house makes.
